Dear Parents,

Welcome to the 2009-2010 school year! As you well know, our school, along with several others in the district, is undergoing a restructuring effort.  This was discussed on many occasions this past year.  In order to help our students perform better in the classroom and on standardized tests, the following initiatives will be implemented this year:

• Classroom Without Walls - Based on DRA, PASS, MAP scores and classroom performance, if students are able to work on a higher level or need to work on a lower level, they may be moved to another grade with a class that is working on the level that they need.
• Teacher Reassignments/Subjects - announced in May
• Technology (Classroom Performance System) - for quicker assessments of student learning
• Academy of Reading/All Teachers Teach Reading - district-wide initiative
• Paperless Classrooms - laptops for GT classes
• Quarterly School-Wide Writing Activities - in preparation for PASS
• Rocking Chair Readers - Parenting activity

Our theme this year is "Restructuring: The Road to Academic Excellence" where we will use best practices such as integrating technology while meeting the needs of each student through differentiated grouping.

I am looking forward to a fantastic year this school year.  With collaboration, teaming and team-building, we will have a great year.
